At the age of 17 I was bucked off of a horse and suffered a major neck injury. I wouldn't discover the extent of the damage until I was in my mid 20's and living with chronic, debilitating pain. At age 34 the pain had gotten so extreme that my doctor, told me my only option was to undergo a tri-level cervical fusion. The surgery worked and within a year I was able to return to all of my normal activities skiing, hiking, and even horseback riding. However, in my third year of recovery I had been plagued with another debilitating set back. I started to experience extended periods of vertigo, sinus pressure, nausea and ringing in my ears. At first this would come on in episodes. I never knew how long they would last but usually no more than a week or two. Gradually they became more frequent, until one day I realized that my most recent episode had been going on for months and was severely affecting my everyday life. That's when one night feeling hopeless and desperate I began searching the internet for answers to my ailment which would just happen to be the miracle I was looking for...While searching for remedies to help with my sickness I happened upon Dr. Blom's website. For the first time since it had started I was reading about a doctor that actually specialized in the exact thing that was causing me so much pain and discomfort.
Dr. Blom called me in person after receiving my desperate message and told me he would have his secretary get in touch with me and get me in to see him that very week.
I anxiously awaited my appointment and looked forward to hopefully having some answers. Dr. Blom diagnosed me with Meniere’s disease and a Subluxation Disorder which he explained to me meant that my neck injury and recent surgery were preventing my spinal fluid from properly flowing in and out of my head, the extra fluid was trapped, causing the severe vertigo, sinus pain and nausea I had been experiencing. He explained to me that fixing the underlying issue would take time and would require weekly visits to his office as well as extensive X-rays and precise mathematics to determine the exact type of adjustments I would undergo.
There was no easy fix to the effects caused by the injury that I had sustained so long ago. It had taken years to get this bad and it would take months to reverse the damage that had been done.
After my first adjustment I felt a bit of relief in the pressure in my head. Admittedly, there were times I felt that my situation may be too severe to fix but I kept going to my weekly visits and most times I would experience some relief in my symptoms and also in the everyday pain in my neck that I had resigned to the fact would be something I would have to live with for the rest of my life.... However, at around month 5 of my treatment I saw extreme improvement in my Meniere’s disease and also in that pain that I had learned to live with for so long. I continue to heal and get better and sometimes even forget an appointment here or there because I am finally back to my old self and doing the things I love.
I will continue to see Dr. Blom, he has changed my life! He is an extremely intelligent and compassionate human being. His attention to detail is unmatched.
